Overthrow the Blockade, an initiative to overcome US blockade

SANCTI SPIRITUS, Cuba, May 27 (ACN) The difficulties of the University of the central province of Sancti Spiritus to carry out transactions from the agreements it has with institutions in other countries, the obsolescence of school laboratories and the limitations to access to consumables in Health are just some examples of the impact of the U.S. economic blockade on the Cuban province.

Although for more than six decades, the government of Washington has maintained the financial and commercial siege that constitutes a brake on Cuba's development, the last few years have been very complex; hence the importance of the exchanges that until Monday the Expedition Overthrow the Blockade, an initiative aimed, above all, at dialogue with young people, has been promoting in the territory.

We know that the new generations are a direct target of subversion against the island and one of the faces of the media campaigns is precisely to try to ignore the existence of that blockade that causes so much damage in centers such as those we have been able to visit here, said Glenda Gomez, an official of the Directorate of Asia and Oceania in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex by ity its Spanish acronym).

She highlighted that in the debates in universities, scientific institutions, production and service entities and historical sites of this central region, much was said, for example, about the scarcity and conditions of the material base of study, the laboratories and the impossibility of accessing the necessary equipment, the lack of fuel that affects electricity generation and transportation.

But we also saw how in these spaces they reinvent themselves every day to overcome the limitations and there are ideas that could even be replicated in other scenarios, she added.

According to Asdrubal de la Vega, general official of the United States office in the Minrex, another of the problems they were able to learn about on this occasion was that of the university in the province to position their research in international journals and platforms of wide scope, a drawback that has not prevented them from continuing to do science and promote the most dissimilar projects.

The Meat Company, an entity where linkages and projects are implemented to diversify its productive lines; the Sancti Spiritus Municipal Prosecutor's Office, recently awarded the Siempre Joven plaque; the Camilo Cienfuegos General Hospital and educational facilities were on the itinerary of the Overthrow the Blockade expedition.
