SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, May 6 (ACN) The photovoltaic solar park Las Guasimas, in the municipality of Contramaestre in Santiago de Cuba, was opened today in the presence of the Commander of the Revolution and Deputy Prime Minister of Cuba, Ramiro Valdes Menendez, generating 21.8 megawatts.
Synchronized to the National Electro-energy System since April 30, the Chinese technology installation is the first of four destined for the province, as part of the country's energy transition investment policy.
During a tour of the site, Valdes Menendez was interested in the daily generation capacity and the main challenges faced before its start-up, and extended his appreciation to those involved in the work.
Referring to the impact of the new photovoltaic park, Javier Calero, director of the Electric Company, highlighted the installation of more than 42,000 panels and seven inverters, which will reduce the use of around 20 tons of fossil fuels per day.
He pointed out the savings of more than 1,159 dollars used daily in fuel oil, diesel and other petroleum derivatives, while underscoring the ecological benefits of taking advantage of the energy from sunlight.
He pointed out the preparation of two new parks in the municipality of San Luis and the studies of another piece of land in Contramaestre itself, as well as the search for new spaces for future investments.
After five months of construction, assembly, testing and start-up, the site favors the reduction of fossil fuel consumption and the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
