Climate change study exhibits results in Cuban province

HOLGUIN, Cuba, Apr 15 (ACN) The territorial program on the impact of climate change in the eastern province of Holguin already has its first results in the eastern province, as part of the strategy focused on the promotion of communities and ecosystems resilient to global warming.

Geovanny Zaldivar Martinez, sub-delegate of the sector, told the Cuban News Agency that this thematic line offers accurate information for the management of biodiversity, by evaluating the variables of weather, temperatures and rainfall.

He pointed out that through this tool it is possible to configure ecosystem services related to research, education, recreation and tourism based on the use of protected areas and biological corridors.

It also allows the creation of management programs adapted to the local needs of remote communities and the strengthening of decision-making mechanisms that take these aspects into account.

This knowledge, he explained, makes it possible to establish a classification of the damage caused by global warming in the medium and long term, which helps to delimit activities aimed at mitigating it over time.

Climate change causes effects such as high intensity meteorological events, saline intrusion, prolonged drought and sea level rise, which is why Cuba is implementing actions until 2030 aimed at reducing the vulnerability of the economy and populations.
