HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 4 (acn) President Raul Castro arrived in Havana after having attended the inauguration ceremony for Uruguayan head of state Tabare Vazquez, who took office for the second time in representation of his country´s Frente Amplio political party.
Raul was welcomed at the Jose Marti International airport by first vice-president Miguel Diaz Canel and by Interior minister Abelardo Colome.
During his three-day stay in Uruguay, Raul Castro held talks with Tabare Vazquez, with former president Jose Mujica and his wife, senator Lucia Topolanski. He also met with the general secretary of Uruguay´s Communist Party Eduardo Lorier and with other members of that political organization.
The Cuban president was awarded the key to the City of Montevideo, an honor which was previously granted by the city council to Revolution Leader Fidel Castro in 1995.
This was the first visit by Raul Castro to Uruguay, which corroborated the excellent bilateral relations between Havana and Montevideo, reads an article on Granma newspaper.
