HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 2 (acn) Salvador Valdés Mesa, Cuban Vice President of the State Council, received on Sunday afternoon at Erastus Okundi Mwencha, African Union (AU) Commission deputy chairperson.
After highlighting the historical ties of friendship between Cuba and Africa, the leaders exchanged views on international issues of common interest, particularly on the efforts of the island in the fight against Ebola epidemics affecting the African continent, Granma newspaper reported.
Valdés Bureau thanked the recent adoption by the 24th AU Summit of a resolution urging the US President to use his executive powers to end the blockade against Cuba.
Erastus Okundi Mwencha, who is on an official visit to the island, was accompanied by Arthur Fareed, Senior Advisor and other advisors.
Angel Villa Hernández, director of sub-Saharan Africa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other officials of that Ministry attended the meeting on the Cuban side.
