Cuban eastern province elects new government representatives

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 9 (ACN) As a result of the vote held to elect the new government figures in the eastern province of Las Tunas, validated by the National Electoral Council, Yelenys Tornet Menendez was elected on Sunday as provincial governor and Juana Yamilka Viñals Suarez, as deputy governor.

The process was initiated from the request of Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the country, who indicated to the leadership of the National Electoral Council the beginning of the revocation process of the vice governor of the province of Las Tunas, Ernesto Luis Cruz Reyes.

That task was carried out on Sunday, December 8 with the participation of 637 delegates to the Municipal Assemblies of People's Power for 98.91 % of attendance.

As a result of the ballot, 620 votes were obtained for Yes to the revocation and 16 for NO, resulting in the revocation of Ernesto Luis Cruz Reyes as Vice Governor with 97.48% of the votes.

The National Electoral Council, in compliance with its mission and Law 127, Electoral Law, organized, directed and supervised the development of this process, for which purpose it approved the Chronogram, Information Calendar and other documents that govern it.

The proposals of candidates for the positions of Provincial Governor and Vice Governor were delivered by the President of the Republic to the National Electoral Council and their biographies were reproduced and delivered to the delegates to the Municipal Assemblies of the People's Power no less than 72 hours prior to the date of the election, as provided for in the Electoral Law.

A total of 637 delegates from the eight Municipal Assemblies of the territory participated in the voting process, which represented 98.91% of attendance, who, gathered in their own right and constituted in electoral colleges, exercised their right to vote.

The quality of the vote was 99.53%, there were no annulled ballots and only three blank ballots (1.10%). El voto por todos representó el 96.37% y fueron selectivos 23 votos, lo que representa 3.62%, resultado del cual fueron electas las responsables de ocupar estas responsabilidades.
