HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 23 (ACN) Cuba and Namibia strengthened ties in the field of Law through a Bilateral Cooperation Agreement between the Prosecutor's Offices of both nations, as part of the official visit to the country of Namibia's Attorney General, Festus Katuna Mbandeka, who said, in statements to the press, that the document will allow Cuban and Namibian Law professionals and prosecutors to share views and good practices on issues of common interest.
Mr. Mbandeka praised the support of the Cuban people in the fight against colonialism and apartheid, the excellent diplomatic relations between both regions, and the role of Cuban aid workers in improving the quality of life of the Namibian population in the fields of health, education and construction. Likewise, he reasserted his country’s opposition to the U.S. blockade of Cuba.
Patricia Rizo Cabrera, chief prosecutor of the Department of Legal Cooperation and International Relations of the Attorney General's Office (FGR), remarked that this first agreement with Namibia is in line with Cuba’s intention to keep expanding bilateral relations with sister nations.
The Namibian official met Tuesday with Yamila Peña Ojeda, Attorney General of the Republic of Cuba, and Óscar Pérez Silveira, Minister of Justice, as well as with FGR staff members, and learned about the role of Cuban legal entities and the history, mission, organization, structure and functions of this Cuban body.
The meeting addressed legislation, actions and measures to prevent and fight gender and family violence and racial discrimination, an endeavor underpinned by the National Program for the Advancement of Women, the Cuban Color Program, and the far-reaching process of legislative transformation in Cuba following the approval of a new Constitution in 2019.
Mr. Mbandeka also received information about the Cuban Family Code, Criminal Procedural Law and Penal Code, as well as about the rights enshrined in the Constitution and guaranteed by the Attorney General's Office, the citizen services system, the Criminal Execution Law, the prevention of white-collar crime, and the professional training of prosecutors.
