Power restored to almost 71 % of Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 22 (ACN) The Electrical Power Company reported in the six o'clock this morning that 70. 89% of customers in Cuba have electricity service.

Today continues the strengthening of the systems formed and the expansion of electricity coverage in the, the message on X specifies.

Electricity coverage is currently continuing with the strengthening of generation in regional micro-systems before interconnecting them to avoid imbalances that could lead to a reversal of the progress made, according to Felix Estrada Rodriguez, head of the National Load Dispatch of the Electric Company, who appeared on the program Mesa Redonda, a specialist who recalled that, although in some areas electricity coverage has improved substantially, it is still too early to speak of a restored National Electroenergy System (SEN).

Lazaro Guerra, General Director of Electricity of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, informed today on the Cuban Television's Buenos Dias news magazine, that during Monday, the subsystem in the western region was further strengthened, in the early morning it was possible to serve the entire load in that region, including Pinar del Rio, which was linked, and which receives 65 megawatts of electricity.

Thus, from Pinar del Rio to a part of Matanzas, there were no service problems in the early hours of the morning.

Guerra said that the other system, which reaches Holguin with the entry of the Felton 1 unit, is expected to reach Santiago de Cuba this Tuesday morning to be able to balance the effects that will be felt in the area from part of Matanzas to Guantanamo.

This system would be linked, but there will be no generation capacity for the demand. Once we have the SEN, he added, we will have to manage the loads because we cannot supply all the demand, he explained.

Unit 6 of Nuevitas, unit 1 of Felton, the engines of Moa and we are starting up unit 4 of CTE Carlos Manuel de Cespedes in Cienfuegos. We are going to evaluate the safety conditions of these two subsystems to be able to establish the national electric system, but we are going to do it calmly, wait until it is stabilized, following especially the system between Matanzas and Holguín, where we are advancing with firm steps to strengthen it, the specialist explained.

There is a level of coverage in the western subsystem comprising Pinar del Rio, Mayabeque, Artemisa, Havana and the city of Matanzas, because the rest of that province is in the other subsystem.
In the other subsystem we are heating the 220,000 volt line to link Felton with Santiago de Cuba and increase capacity.

Regarding Guantanamo, badly affected by hurricane Oscar, Guerra said that there are brigades from the eastern provinces that are going to go to the territory to support the recovery.
The electric brigade will be ready to recover the damages caused by the meteorological event in the shortest possible time, he concluded.
