HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 24 (acn) The Seventh Congress of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC) will be held in April 2016 as announced this Monday during the 10th Plenary of the Central Committee of the political organization.
The Plenary, presided over by the First Secretary of the PCC Raul Castro, approved the planning of a set of activities for the 2015-2018 period, fulfilling the agreements of the Sixth Congress, which include the improvement of the Political-Administration Division of the country, the spreading of the new model of work for the local People´s Power Assemblies and the election process.
Regarding the new Political-Administration Division, the members of the Central Committee ratified its main goal is to strengthen the role of the municipality as main element in the territorial management of the country, to give it its needed autonomy based on a solid economic base.
On the elections, it was announced the coming into force of a new Electoral Act and a general election afterwards.
Also, during the meeting, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez gave an update on the current status of the relations with the United States
