ICAP reaffirms solidarity with Bolivarian Venezuela

HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 13 (ACN) In a statement issued on the occasion of the 98th anniversary of Fidel's birth and signed by its president Fernando González Llort, the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) evokes its close relations with Bolivarian leader Hugo Chavez, reaffirms its solidarity with Venezuela now that it’s threatened by imperial maneuvers against the results of the recent presidential elections, and celebrates “the resounding victory of President Nicolás Maduro Moros, reelected by the Venezuelan people, who exercised their legitimate right to sovereignty and self-determination and to choose the destiny of the nation in a free, transparent and democratic electoral process.

“ICAP joins the denunciations of the Network of Intellectuals in Defense of Humanity and other organizations against attempts by the Venezuelan right wing—together with imperialism and its lackey governments—to disregard the popular will expressed in the ballots.

“We strongly reject all forms of violence, interference, foreign imposition and manipulation by the hegemonic media, as well as any action to destabilize Venezuela. (…) The coup concocted by Washington and waged by the fascist ultra-right has been quickly, forcefully and effectively dismantled by the Venezuelan authorities and the civic-military unity of the chavista people who massively and peacefully took to the streets to defend the Bolivarian Revolution.

“Today we reassert the path traced by Fidel and Chavez to protect without hesitation the Bolivarian Revolution and the sovereignty and self-determination of the peoples of the region,” the text concludes, assuring that Venezuela and Cuba are examples of hope and resistance to the oppressed of the world.
