NUEVA GERONA, Cuba, Jul 24 (ACN) Hundreds in the Isle of Youth will hail today the 30th anniversary of the historic phrase “Sí se puede” (Yes we can) pronounced by Army General Raúl Castro Ruz on July 26, 1994, when the special municipality hosted the celebrations for the National Rebellion Day.
Raúl delivered this words from the staircase of the former penitentiary Presidio Modelo―today a national monument―during the ceremony for the 41st anniversary of the Moncada attack presided over by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro and in which he declared for the first time the Cuban people’s past, present and future reasons to protect the achievements of the country’s social project as the enemies of the Revolution heralded its demise.
Today’s homage to 71st anniversary of the attacks on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks in the cities of Santiago de Cuba and Bayamo, respectively, and to the 128th anniversary of the pro-independence uprising in Nueva Gerona will serve to remember the past, but also to inspire the new generations to keep fighting for a better future, based on the motto that has guided Cuba for three decades: “Sí se puede”.
