Cuban province carries out civil works of desalination plant

 HOLGUIN, Cuba, Jul 23 (ACN) The civil work of the desalination plant of Caletones, in the municipality of Gibara in the eastern province of Holguin, is being executed as part of the actions to ensure access to drinking water in vulnerable neighborhoods.

Juan Mario Echavarria Hernandez, territorial delegate of Hydraulic Resources, told the Cuban News Agency that the plant is a Japanese donation and has a capacity of six liters per second, which will improve the quality of life of the population.

This construction stage contemplates digging the leveling wells and quantifying the pipes necessary for the operation of the facility, which is expected to start operating this year, the official said.

He stressed that in the municipality, some 30 kilometers from the provincial capital, repairs are also being carried out on water mains, correction of leaks and cleaning of dams, in order to improve the service and contribute to environmental sanitation.

The Cueto water treatment plant, the search for new sources in rural areas and areas of difficult access, as well as investments for water supply in Ramon de Antilla and other areas of tourist interest are also being executed.

In the sector, flood zones are also eliminated, new customers are incorporated to the aqueduct and sewage systems, among other works in the eastern province, the third most densely populated in Cuba.
