Cuba congratulates Nicaragua on anniversary of Sandinista Revolution

HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 19 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the country, congratulated today his Nicaraguan counterpart Daniel Ortega and vice president Rosario Murillo, on the 45th anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution, an event that marked a new historic moment for Latin America and the Caribbean.

On the occasion of the date, Diaz-Canel wished them success on the road to all possible social justice.

On the same social network, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, foreign minister, recognized the Government of Unity and National Reconciliation of Nicaragua, under the leadership of Commander Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo.

Cuban diplomat reiterated his country's solidarity and unrestricted support to the Central American country.

We congratulate the Sandinista National Liberation Front and the brotherly Nicaraguan people on the 45th anniversary of the triumph of the Sandinista Revolution and ratify the will to continue deepening the historic friendship ties that unite our political organizations, Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, said on the occasion of the anniversary.

On July 17, 1979 Anastasio Somoza Debayle, third and last of a military dictatorship responsible for thousands of deaths, fled Nicaragua thanks to the strengthening of the popular insurrection and the lack of international support, putting an end to more than 40 years of Somoza's regime.

During the day of July 19, 1979, the Sandinista National Liberation Front entered Managua ending the Somoza dictatorship and beginning what is known as the Sandinista Revolution, assuming the responsibilities of government through the Government Junta of National Reconstruction.

The Sandinistas governed from 1979 to 1990, and then won again in the 2006 elections, a result that would be repeated in 2011, 2016 and 2021.
