Cuban parliament pays memorial tribute to Vietnamese leader

HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 19 (ACN) Deputies to the Cuban Parliament paid posthumous tribute, with a minute of silence in the plenary hall of the Havana Convention Center, to Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP) reported today on its website.

With deep sorrow, we have learned of the death of comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam. In recognition of his memory, long revolutionary
trajectory and brotherhood demonstrated with our country, and on behalf of our people we represent, I ask for a minute of silence, said at the beginning of the third day of the 3rd Ordinary Session of the ANPP Esteban Lazo Hernandez, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party, president of the ANPP and of the Council of State.

The legislative body recalled that during Lazo Hernandez's last official visit to Vietnam, in September 2023, in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Fidel's first visit to the Asian nation, the parliamentary leader was received by Nguyen Phu Trong.

He highlighted his conviction that this visit by Esteban Lazo would mark an important milestone in the strengthening of bilateral relations.

Nguyen Phu Trong died today at 80 at 1:38 p.m. (Vietnam local time) at the 108 Central Military Hospital in Hanoi, announced the Commission for the Protection and Health Care of Cadres of the Central Committee of the political organization.
