Eastern Cuba boosts UN-aligned habitat and urban planning programs

HOLGUÍN, Cuba, Jul 17 (ACN) The province of Holguin promotes habitat and urban planning programs as part of the strategies to improve the quality of life in the communities and develop key sectors of the economy.

Cesar Paterson Rodriguez, head of the local office of the country’s regional and urban planning authority (INOTU), said that the projects involve the creation of outdoor recreational areas, a technical review of dwellings, and the improvement of sanitary conditions, as well as the elimination of illegal constructions, the relocation of houses built in hazardous spots threatened by the effects of global warming such as sand dunes or the seashore, and the design of housing policies aligned with the social programs of the Cuban Revolution.

“These actions are in line with the UN agenda for sustainable development of urban and rural settlements, to which Cuba has been committed since 2013,” he remarked.

The province’s INOTU office is also engaged in the legalization and promotion of self-help housing, environmental protection, and the fulfillment of Task Vida, the Cuban government's plan to tackle climate change.
