Turkey´s President Pays Official Visit to CubaHAVANA, Cuba, Feb 11 (acn)Turkey´s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan begins an official visit to Cuba on Wednesday as part of a Latin American tour that already took him to Colombia and will wind up in Mexico.

Erdogan, who currently chairs the G-20 Group of countries, will hold talks with President Raul Castro, according to his official agenda on the island.

The Turkish head of state will also pay homage to Cuban Independence Hero Jose Marti at Havana´s Revolution Square.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan was elected Turkish president on August 2014 with 52 percent of the votes; he is the first president elected by direct vote of the people.

Before departing the capital Ankara for his tour, the head of state told reporters at the Ataturk International Airport that for Turkey 2015 is the year of Latin America and the Caribbean, a region with which his country has thus far maintained limited relations.

During his visit to Colombia, the Turkish head of state and President Juan Manuel Santos ratified a series of cooperation accords signed between their countries prior to the visit by Erdogan. The protocols focused the areas of defense, trade, education, civil aviation and agriculture.
