UN program office met with eastern agro-meteorologists in eastern Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 25 (ACN) Staff from the Cuba office of the World Food Program (WFP) met with technicians and specialists of meteorological centers from the eastern provinces of the island.

MSc. Eva Mejías Sedeño, head of the Cuban Meteorology Institute’s Centro de Meteorología Agrícola, reported that the said agricultural meteorologists are currently participating in their XI national meeting on this topic.

The WFP has long supported Cuban agricultural value chains in order to help farmers become more productive, make more income, and reduce post-harvest losses, as well as to ensure a stable and diverse supply of highly nutritious foods and provide training, technical assistance and equipment to small farmers and other actors involved in food production programs.

Likewise, the organization focuses attention on making food production less vulnerable to extreme weather events and climate change and increasing crop yields and quality.
