Cuban Organization Promotes Women Role in Agriculture

Havana, Jun 24 (ACN) The Cuban Women’s Federation (FMC) is promoting accords and projects to increase the number of women in rural work, as a source of employment and contribution to food production.

A large number of women are currently working as leaders and executives in some 25 programs included in the National Food Sovereignty and Nutritional Education Plan, said FMC official Anierka Fernandez in statements to ACN.

The FMC initiative, backed by the National Farmers’ Association, has set up thousands of women’s brigades in agriculture and livestock cooperative farms.

The FMC in coordination with the International Fund for Agricultural Development is promoting the participation of women in ranching and agriculture, said Fernandez.

The official stressed the setting up of a network of institutions to back rural women through training courses, eco-agricultural management initiatives, the development of medicinal herbs and the exchange of experiences.
