HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 16 (ACN) On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the constitution of the G77+China, Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz ratified his country’s commitment to keep promoting solidarity and cooperation among the nations of the South as a way to cope with current challenges to development and to comply with and preserve the founding principles of the organization.
During 2023 Cuba took on the leadership of the group with the purpose of boosting international solidarity and cooperation to support post-pandemic recovery efforts in developing nations.
Established in 1964 within the Non-Aligned Movement at the end of the first session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva, the G77 gathers 134 nations, which makes it the largest and most diverse group at international level.
Its members represent two-thirds of the members of the United Nations system and 80% of the world's population.
