Cuban deputy minister calls for external aid to tackle climate change

HAVANA, Cuba, May 28 (ACN) Adianez Taboada Zamora, deputy minister of Cuba’s Science, Technology and the Environment (CITMA), stressed that the Caribbean countries and small island states need access external financing to purchase cutting-edge technologies designed to counteract the effects of climate change.

At the III Convention on Meteorology, attended by Mario Cruz Peñate, representative of the Pan American and World Health Organization, and other guests, Taboada Zamora suggested that viable projects be submitted to the demanding international climate funding entities and remarked that most of the steps taken so far are reactive rather than preventive or designed as short-term measures.

She also called for greater integration in the assimilation of knowledge in order to lay the foundations for common solutions in food security and health in general.

The Convention gathers delegates from seven countries and specialized international organizations.
