Head of Cuban Ministry of Domestic Trade stresses importance of Trade Convention

HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 22 (ACN) Betsy Diaz Velazquez, Cuban Minister of Domestic Trade(MINCIN by its Spanish acronym) , stressed today in Havana the importance of the upcoming 3rd Cuba 2024 Trade Convention to attract raw materials, inputs and foreign investment to boost the national industry, offer more goods and services to the population and have an impact on costs and prices.

The head of the MINCIN summarized the Wholesale Trade Workshop, an opportunity in the Cuban market, organized jointly with the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Cuba, with a view to promoting possible business in domestic trade and the exchange on the challenges and potentialities in its development.

At the meeting, both the Minister and Antonio Luis Carricarte Corona, president of that institution, invited representatives of trading, importing, productive and service entities (state and non-state), foreign branches and joint ventures and the Mariel Special Development Zone, to participate in the Convention, scheduled for July 8 to 12.

The Havana Convention Center and the Pabexpo fairgrounds will also host specialists from universities, study centers and scientific and technological institutes, as the event will include symposiums, a congress, pre-event courses and a trade fair with expo-sale, all under the slogan "For a safe, fair and sustainable trade!
Diaz Velazquez said that foreign investment is a challenge and a goal for trade in Cuba, while day by day new strategies and work alliances are drawn, in order to revitalize the sector and promote the transformation of the national economy.

She expressed that the purpose of the workshop was to convene those who continue committing to Cuba, and those who are interested in investing in wholesale trade and proposing joint projects to bring raw materials with which to develop the Cuban industry, produce preferential goods for the people, and thus also reduce costs and get out of logistical risks that shipping companies have today.

During the event, Grisel Avila Diaz, deputy minister of domestic trade, explained how the foreign investment policy has been implemented in this sector; and Raul Delgado Rodriguez, business director of the Industrial Products and Services Commercialization Group, spoke about the actions of the wholesale companies system in order to gradually apply what has been approved in this regard with foreign capital.
