HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 21 (ACN) The Cuba FAO office announced that it will promote seed production in Cuba through a project implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture in 8 municipalities of the country for purposes of increasing food production.
According to the announcement, FAO and the European Union will contribute to capacity building in institutions and enterprises involved in seed production and certification as part of the project “Horizontal pilot models of knowledge management and technology transfer in agroecology”.
Included in the plans for assistance are tractors, automatic seed drills, sifters, seed counters and classifiers, moisture meters for grains, digital scales, and seed conservation containers, among other equipment, an effort made possible by the provision of €2.5 million.
FAO remarked that that the idea is to foster the implementation of scientific results in local production programs and strengthen the links between academic institutions and producers.
