SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, Mar 21 (ACN) As part of the activities for the month of Ramadan, celebrated by Muslims, the University of Oriente in the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba, received the ambassadors of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Maher El-Adawy, and the Republic of Indonesia, Nana Yuliana.
The diplomats' thanks to the Caribbean nation, especially to the Hero City, for the support to the people of Palestine started the exchange, dedicated to show the academic community the meaning, objective and particularities of the religious festivity.
According to El-Adawy, for the first time they carry out actions related to this Islamic practice outside Havana, and chose Santiago de Cuba for its high cultural variety and rich traditions.
For her part, the Indonesian ambassador pointed out the interest in sharing with the people of this province, the joy and peace acquired during this period of spiritual retreat, as well as the intention to show the benefits of fasting and healthy feeding for health.
She referred to the importance of respecting the different religious denominations and living together in harmony, and described as fruitful the meeting at the University of Cuba, since it favors the exchange between nations.
Nana Yuliana also affirmed her country's condemnation of the aggressive economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba, while ratifying the intention to collaborate with the educational system by offering free scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students.
At the exchange, Diana Sedal, rector of the eastern university, expressed her gratitude for the visit to the institution and the interest in learning about its processes, and urged the strengthening of ties in academic and collaborative matters.
With an approximate duration of 29 to 30 days, Ramadan is a holy month of fasting during daylight hours, in which Muslims dedicate five moments of prayer to God and ask for the purification of the soul.
