HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 20 (ACN) The fulfillment of the 2023 strategic project and the work priorities for Cuban general education this year were discussed today, in Havana, during the annual assessment meeting of the Ministry of Education (Mined), chaired by Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC).
Cuban president called for strengthening unity, collective intelligence, the sense of belonging within the educational sector and ideological political work to transmit revolutionary values to the new generations.
It is essential to continue searching for attractive methods for the teaching of Cuban History, Marxism-Leninism, the habit of reading and citizenship education, the president added.
He urged to improve the quality of the class, with updated didactics and creative methods, as well as to make greater use of information technologies.
For his part, Manuel Marrero Cruz, Cuban PM, emphasized the need to improve the attention given to students and working conditions, and therefore, the application of salary benefits, in order to reverse the high dropout rate of professionals in this sector.
He called for revitalizing the vocational training of children and adolescents and seeking solutions to optimize the learning of languages and information technology.
At the same time, Naima Trujillo Barreto, Minister of Education, expressed that for the new period they will work on the completion of teacher coverage, the quality of the educational process, the participation of students in social impact work and doctoral training.
She highlighted as results of 2023 a positive incorporation of ninth grade students to other levels of education, technical and professional training and the obtaining of 33 medals and five great prizes in international competitions and the attention to more than 1 million children and young people in situations of vulnerability.
The meeting was also attended by Jorge Luis Broche Lorenzo, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the PCC and head of the Department of Attention to the Social Sector; and Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella, Cuban deputy prime minister.
