Cuban province works to improve water supply networks

HOLGUIN, Cuba, Mar 12 (ACN) The Territorial Delegation of Hydraulic Resources in the eastern province of Holguin is working on the improvement of water supply networks through a group of investments aimed at shortening the service cycles, still high in some localities.

Among the main works are the Mayari, Banes, Gibara, Rafael Freyre and Calixto Garcia water mains, which include the replacement of pipes and the elimination of leaks, Jorge Bosch, deputy delegate of the sector, told the Cuban News Agency.

He specified that this program allows guaranteeing the pressure and quality standards required to provide greater accessibility and savings of the vital liquid and to respond to the demands of the population.

In addition, the investments include the new pipelines in the tourist pole of Ramon de Antilla, which contributes to reduce the distribution of water by pipes and the reduction of own sources affected by the severe drought, he said.

On the other hand, Bosch added, in the northern and southern systems of the provincial capital, which supply the largest population and economic objectives, infrastructure maintenance is being carried out in order to reduce failures and cover the high demand.

Holguin has more than 779,000 clients associated to aqueduct and sewerage systems, which represents 76 % of its population, and works such as the East-West Transfer are also being promoted to boost agriculture in rural and difficult to access localities.
