Cuban tobacco producer to use renewable energy

LAS TUNAS, Cuba, Mar 4 (ACN) The installation of solar panels in the Enrique Casals Basic Business Unit (UEB by its Spanish acronym), in this eastern city, aims to guarantee the saving of some 2,300 kilowatts each year with the use of renewable energy in the tobacco manufacturing processes.

By disconnecting from the National Electric System for four hours every day, the factory will eliminate delays and problems related to power cuts starting this March.

Arturo Camejo Lopez, director of the UEB, explained exclusively to the Cuban News Agency that the installation of the photovoltaic technology was carried out in the two workshops of the entity and are added to other existing systems such as the power generation plant, in the building located near the Antonio Maceo Park.

UEB, specialized in the production and commercialization of cigars, expects the arrival in the next few days of electric breakers for the start-up of solar panels, an arrangement that will grant energy autonomy to one of the main factories in the territory.

Belonging to the Tobacco Collection, Processing and Twisting Company, the Enrique Casals entity is currently involved in a revitalization and improvement process of its infrastructure and human capital for its insertion in the international market during 2025.
