Cuban seniors among the most protected by the Family Code

HOLGUIN, Cuba, Feb 9 (ACN) The administration of justice regarding the protection of the elderly, one of the sectors most benefited by the Family Code approved in Cuba, stood out in the annual balance of the Provincial Court of the eastern province of Holguin, headquartered in the Fairgrounds of this city.

Ruben Remigio Ferro, president of the People's Supreme Court, stressed exclusively to the Cuban News Agency that although these transcendental legal changes have been implemented for a short time, they have strengthened the guarantees and rights of the people and particularly in the judicial protection field.

He said that their application has required a great effort and preparation on the part of professionals and there is an intervention in issues related to the recognition of affective unions and the guardianship and temporary care of the elderly.

He also highlighted as positive aspects, the presence of the people in court, through the hearings for the resolution of this type of conflicts, one of the guarantees offered by the new constitutional norms approved.

During the conference, aspects related to speed, compliance with due process, correctness of decisions and effectiveness in the execution of judicial rulings were also addressed, which are the main objectives of this organ in this stage of work characterized by legislative and procedural changes.

Among the topics discussed were the application of accessory sanctions such as confiscation of assets, disqualification from holding administrative positions, prohibition to frequent certain places or facilities, suspension of the driver's license or learner's permit and the follow-up of the facts presented in the Constitutional Rights Protection Chamber.

The topics of the new Procedural Code were also analyzed, such as divorce by mutual consent and the protection of persons with prison sentences, prioritized in the social reinsertion programs.

The meeting was attended by Yunia Perez Hernandez, vice governor of the province, along with other authorities and representatives of agencies, among them the Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of the Interior, and Ruben Remigio Ferro was awarded the Holguin Shield, the highest award conferred by the Government to personalities and institutions for his contributions to the economic and social development.
