Cuban VP Inaugurates Electrical Substation in Tourist ResortCayo Santa María, Villa Clara, Cuba, Jan 23 (acn) The Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdés Menéndez, Vice President of the Councils of State and Ministers, inaugurated yesterday an electrical substation in this tourist resort.

Valdes along with Julio Lima Corzo, first secretary of the Cuban Communist Party in the province, granted certificates to outstanding workers in the construction of the new facility.

The substation will guarantee greater reliability and protection to service in the tourist pole of the northeastern keys of Villa Clara, where more than eight thousand rooms are exploited.

Pedro Luis Rodríguez, director of the Villa Clara Electric Company, said the work was started in October 2012 and concluded last December, allowing to meet the present demand and will respond to future requirements of tourist industry.

This facility will protect the lines and power supply automatically in case of a short electrical breakdown in the affected area and also prevents damage to the rest of the circuits.

The plant replaces two protection systems of backward technology and it is expected to increase generation level to face the agile tourism development in the triad of keys in the northeast of the province.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Alfredo Lopez and Rene Mesa, Ministers of Energy and Mines and Construction, respectively, and Ivan Arronde, director of the National Electrical Union.
