Cuban eastern province with praiseworthy results in science

SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, Jan 15 (ACN) The province of Santiago de Cuba exhibits a high scientific potential through the implementation of projects associated with territorial programs for food, health, efficient use of energy and integrated management of natural resources for the mitigation of environmental impacts.
Jose Zapata, delegate of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment in the territory, highlighted to Cuban News Agency important results at national level such as the creation of magnetic conditioners applied to the sugar industry, irrigation in agriculture, high molecular content feed to increase the weight of fattening rabbits and bovine meat mass, and the manufacture of rehabilitation equipment by the National Center of Applied Electromagnetism.

He highlighted the work of the Medical Biophysics entity with image transmission devices, magnetic relaxation laboratories, cardiovascular sensors and sickle cell anemia studies, which won the Annual Prize of the Cuban Academy of Sciences.

He also emphasized on the research of the National Center for Seismological Research in 2023 associated with new estimates of seismic hazard, vulnerability and risk and the tsunami map for Cuba, as well as the work to complete the network of stations with monitoring facilities in Ciego de Avila, Villa Clara, Pinar del Rio and Isle of Youth.

The expert stressed the installation of accelerographs in the cities of Santiago de Cuba, Guantanamo, Pilon, Moa, Varadero and Mariel, technology to determine ground values at different points, which provide essential information for urban planning actions in order to mitigate seismic damages in infrastructures.
Zapata pointed out other scientific achievements such as the validation of the Hemodes reagent for microbiological use in 13 health care centers in the eastern region and the obtaining of edible mushrooms with high protein, mineral and antioxidant properties.
