Cuba to host day in celebration of Electricity Worker's Day

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 5 (ACN) With new commitments and higher goals to be achieved in 2024, electricity workers will hold a day of celebrations to mark their day, on January 14.

This was announced today at a press conference held at the Ministry of Energy and Mines by leaders of the national union that groups workers in this sector.

Ayneris Avila Feria, acting secretary of the workers' organization, greeted all the members who work in this sector, which she described as being of great importance for the economic and social life of the country in the current circumstances.

The union representative especially acknowledged the dedication and results of the Vanguard Collectives during the year, such as the Fewll Generator Maintenance Company, followed by the Electric Union (UNE) in Granma and the Carlos Manuel de Cespedes Thermoelectric Power Plant in Cienfuegos.

Omar Ramirez Mendoza, deputy director of UNE, gave an update on the entity's commercial collection, which reached levels higher than the plan, and on the impact on the electricity service, which, according to him, was lower than that recorded in 2022.

He also referred to a contract to install new photovoltaic solar energy parks in three provinces, in line with the will to continue the transition to clean energy sources.

Established in Cuba in 1977, the Electricity Workers' Day commemorates January 14, 1934, when revolutionary leader Antonio Guiteras Holmes (1906-1935) signed the intervention of the ill-named Cuban Electricity Company.
