HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 29 (ACN) In addition to the fact that by 2024 the State Budget will have a discreet increase in spending aimed at restoring activity levels in public health and education, as of January 1 it will support wage increases and improvements in the working conditions of their respective workers.
The news, although already announced among the Government's projections for correcting distortions and boosting the economy during the coming year, has had an impact on many of the almost 1 million workers of both sectors, social conquests of the Revolution, and very committed to the welfare of the people, who are also pleased with the well-deserved recognition.
In the TV and radio program Mesa Redonda, executives and union leaders of Education, including Higher Education, and of the Ministry of Public Health ( MINSAP by its Spanish acronym) talked about this, and other details related to the salary increases that will be applied as from next Monday.
Before Luis Fernandez Navarro, deputy minister of MINSAP, and the ministers of education and higher education, Ariatne Trujillo and Walter Baluja, respectively, spoke, Maritza Cruz Garcia, deputy minister of finance and prices, offered figures and valuations which reaffirm the will of the State to comply with an old and just claim.
She specified that these are additional increases of more than 13,785 million pesos destined to health and 11,544 million to education, which will be used to support the salary increase and other improvements, some of them gradually during the year.
The deputy minister of public health pointed out that there are 22 measures, but the most immediate ones will begin to be implemented on January 1st and have to do with the additional payment for seniority to doctors and stomatologists, and to the personnel of the universities of Medical Sciences.
There will be 212,427 professionals and technicians benefited, although they and other workers will also be taken into account for services rendered at night and on weekends, special conditions of greater complexity, such as secondary and tertiary levels of attention, and for taking on outside work due to the lack of personnel in the institution.
The Minister of Education also highlighted the joy with which the measures have been received by teachers and other workers, and how, in order to ensure their successful implementation, executives at all levels are being prepared and regulations and resolutions are being adjusted.
As of January 1, more than 200,000 educators will be distinguished for their seniority, teaching overload and for taking on tasks other than their own, among other aspects, with amounts explained in the radio-television program.
For Higher Education, according to the minister, this important recognition from the State and society in general comes at a special moment given that in 2024, due to the changes brought about by the pandemic, Cuban universities will still have two academic periods.
According to Walter Baluja, it is an award not only to those who have been training professionals for Cuba and the world for decades and decades, but also to those who carry out scientific research, develop projects, have received awards and have access to scientific categories.
