Cuban provincial authorities call for strengthening state agricultural enterprises

MATANZAS, Cuba, Nov 24 (ACN) The authorities at a plenary session of the provincial committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in Matanzas called today to strengthen the state agricultural enterprise and generalize positive experiences in food production.

Based on an analysis of the main actions in terms of food sovereignty, they insisted on stabilizing state markets, making new investments and increasing exports.

The agricultural sector can save the country, it is still very little achieved; it is necessary to get all businessmen, managers and producers to work to generate a change with their own resources to satisfy the demand of the people, said Mario Sabines Lorenzo, governor of the territory.

The governor pointed out as top priority the urgency of attending to the problems of the housing fund, infrastructure, basic services, and others that cause the population to leave the countryside, which seriously affects agriculture.

For her part, Susely Morfa Gonzalez, first secretary of the PCC in the province, pointed out the transformations being undertaken at the Genetic Livestock Enterprise of Matanzas, today with millionaire losses, and the commitment of its workers, especially the young ones, to fulfill their commitments.

Morfa Gonzalez emphasized the efforts of the western region in the preparations for the sugar harvest starting in December, to make better use of the land, and to increase the application of science and technology in the field.

It was reported that the corn planting program is being consolidated with the collaboration project INVIVO (France) to increase to 2,000 hectares the number of hectares planted with this crop in the municipalities of Jovellanos and Perico.

During the plenary session, weaknesses were recognized in the fight against crimes against livestock, although with a discreet decrease, progress in the process of bankarization, and the support of labor collectives for agricultural work.
