HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 20 (ACN) It is not possible to imagine an alternative, sustainable and inclusive development model without mobilizing human potential and scientific and technological capabilities promoted by education, said Naima Trujillo Barreto, Cuban minister of education, today during the opening of the 3rd International Congress of Secondary Education.
The minister told the 250 delegates to the event, among whom are teachers and researchers, that Cuban educators face one of the most decisive and universal challenges of the contemporary world, which is to train people and coordinate interests.
This sector must promote unity, solidarity and cooperation, insisted Trujillo Barreto at the opening of the conclave, at the Convention Center in Havana, which was attended by Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic.
The event will address specific issues for Secondary Education, such as inclusive, equitable and quality education in the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the formation of adolescents from a flexible, relevant, participatory and comprehensive curriculum.
Cuba, despite the complex global scenario, prioritizes education, which is enshrined as a right of all people and which the State guarantees in an affordable and free manner from early childhood to postgraduate studies, the minister added.
The 3rd International Congress of Secondary Education is dedicated to the 235th anniversary of the birth of Felix Varela, one of the founding fathers of Cuban thought and nation; to the centenary of Jose Ramon Fernandez, Minister of Education between 1972 and 1990; and to Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, who promoted the Literacy Campaign in Cuba at the beginning of the Revolution.
