CIENFUEGOS, Cuba, Oct 25 (ACN) The effectiveness of graphic humor in print media took center stage in the 2nd International Scientific Convention of the University of Cienfuegos, attended by some 350 professionals from Ecuador, Mexico, Canada, Panama, Colombia, Germany, Honduras, Russia, Spain, Belarus, United States, Brazil and Cuba.
During the round-table session “Communication for development” held as part of the 5th International Workshop on Sociocultural Studies, details were known about how this modality of journalism, in particular the caricature, is a tenet and forms part of the public agenda.
Mercedes Caro Nodarse, director of the local newspaper 5 de Septiembre, remarked that caricature is an effective and largely understandable communication tool, as well as a self-contained element in the critique of current affairs and the use of humor seen as harmless, which is actually a powerful alternative to denounce the crisis of values and other social problems.
Featured in the program for the next few days are workshops on topics such as energy, environment and sustainable development, food security and sustainable agricultural transformation, business management, local development, and sustainability.
