U.S. University Students Visit Cienfuegos

CIENFUEGOS, Cuba, Jan 6 (acn) University students of the United states arrived on Tuesday in this city for an academic program of exchanges between Cuban institutions and the University of Hartwick, of the state of New York.

The group is composed of 18 youngsters, who toured the city and spoke with jurists of Cienfuegos and with students and professors of the Faculty of Medical Sciences on the main characteristics of the Cuban health and legal systems.

Patricia Dopazo, coordinator of the educational experience, told ACN that the delegation is made up by students doing degrees in nursing, political sciences, economics and biology, and that this is the first time that a group of Hartwick College visits Cuba.

She highlighted that among the main objectives of the visit is to know more about Cuba's culture, history and the economy, as well as its national heritage.

Rim Karovi, a member of the U.S. delegation, expressed her enthusiasm for this trip, through which she expects to know more about the real Cuban society.

After their visit to Cienfuegos, the U.S. students will tour, until January 22, several places of economic and social interest in the provinces of Villa Clara, Matanzas, La Habana and Pinar del Rio.
Also on their agenda is a visit to the Ernest Hemingway house-museum at Finca Vigia, and a meeting with journalist Marc Frank, the author of Cuban Revelations: Behind the Scenes in Havana.
