Research Browse Kicks off around Cuban Key

 Ciego de Avila, Aug 2 (ACN) Members of the research project known as “Bojeo a Cuba” (Browse around Cuba) on board the Oceans for Youth boat reached “Puerto Casasa” harbor in Cayo Coco key, part of the tourist destination “Jardines del Rey”, off the northern coast of central Ciego de Avila province to keep research on sites of tourist interest.

Project coordinator Omelio Borroto said the browse has thus far been successful after they found new sites with potential for nature tourism. He said they have identified virgin ecosystems to be considered in detailed.

Tourism official in Ciego de Avila, Iyolexis Correa said her sector is interested in learning about the results of the research project because it is a useful tool to learn about different ecosystems that can contribute to the ecological tourist sector.

Scientists and journalists kicked off an expedition on July 18 onboard the Oceans for Youth boat to browse over 5 thousand kilometers of Cuban coasts both on the north and south of the island.

The project allows research on the health of coral reefs, marine species and fowls, monitor human activity, pollution, climate natural phenomena, and the presence of micro-plastics, among other aspects.

The results will help learn about the impact of climate change on coastal communities and ecosystems.

The scientific browse is led by the Center for Marine Research of the University of Havana, the Environment Agency with the Science, Technology and the Environment Ministry and Avalon-Marlin among other institutions.
