Women Nuclear Experts Present Scientific Results

Havana, July 13 (ACN) Representatives of the WiN-Cuba, Cuban Women's Network in the Nuclear marked the 5th year of their institution by presenting scientific results in economic sectors of the country during a meeting at the Nuclear Energy and Advanced Technology Agency.

The event focused on the use of nuclear technology particularly in healthcare and agriculture. Participants presented their experiences positron and single photon emission computed tomography in patients with non-oncological diseases. They also addressed the use of amniotic membranes and the improvement of medical assistance in diagnosing, preventing and controlling endocrinal conditions.

As to agriculture, the experts considered the improvement of tomato through mutations in the face climate change, soybean crop radio-sensitiveness in front of gamma radiation applied on seeds, and the use of in-vitro radio-mutagenesis in citrus fruit rootstock grafts to improve their tolerance against drought and alkaline soils.

Several experts were acknowledged for their work and results during the meeting.
