Cuban authorities support Parliament's statement

HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 12 (ACN) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla endorsed today the declaration of the International Relations Commission of the National Assembly of People's Power (Cuban Parliament) against an anti-Cuban resolution approved Wednesday by the European Parliament (EP), which he referred to as deprived of any moral, political and legal authority to pass judgment on Cuba.

On his end, Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, supported the declaration of the National Assembly in condemnation of a resolution that plays into the hands of the U.S. and its attempts to isolate Cuba and violates the principles of respect, inclusion and cooperation of the 3rd Summit between the European Union (EU) and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), to be held on July 17-18.

Other Cuban leaders, including Aylín Álvarez, first secretary of the National Committee of the Young Communist League; Teresa Amarelle Boue, secretary-general of the Federation of Cuban Women; and Alfonso Noya, president of the Institute of Information and Social Communication, also decried a resolution—approved with 359 votes in favor, 226 against and 50 abstentions—against alleged violations and abuses of human rights in Cuba and in favor of sanctions against Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel and other high-ranking leaders of the country.

Following the approval of the text, international organizations and MEPs such as Manuel Pineda and Massimiliano Smeriglio condemned its contents and stated their support to the Cuban people and government.
