Havana, Venue of International Environment Conference

Havana, June 19 (ACN) Havana will be the venue of the 14th International Convention on Environment and Development, July 3-7, with the attendance of over 1400 delegates from 20 countries.

The announcement was made by the president of the Environment Agency (AMA) Maritza Garcia during a press conference on Monday. She also explained that most delegates are Cuban while others come from the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Colombia and Ecuador.

However, she said that the number of foreign participants may increase given the interest that the conference can raise in researchers, educators, experts, entrepreneurs, and other professionals who work towards the sustainability of Planet Earth.

The event will promote the exchange of experiences, sustainable practices, sustained and inclusive economic growth, participatory social development, environment protection and the dignity of human beings.

The opening ceremony of the convention will take place at Havana’s National Aquarium, where national and international experts will give keynote lectures till July 6. Some of the specialists to participate include Lyes Ferroukhi, leader of the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Team of Nature, Climate and Energy, with the UNDP. The technical director of the Biological Corridor of the Caribbean Nicasio Vina Davila will participate for Cuba.

The First International Convention on Environment and Development was held in 1997 at Havana’s Conventions Center.
