Cuban Hero’s visit to Panama marked by solidarity

HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 18 (ACN) Fernando Gonzalez, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) and Hero of the Republic of Cuba, started a three-day official visit to Panama marked by solidarity with the island and opposition to the U.S. blockade.

During his stay, Gonzalez and his delegation will meet with authorities and visit the Panama Canal, as well as the University of Panama (UP) to lay a wreath on the monument to Cuba’s National Hero José Martí, which pays tribute to the worldwide campaign for the release of the Cuban Five (Gerardo Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero, Ramón Labañino, René González, and Fernando himself), who served unjust prison sentences in the U.S. for alerting their country of violent anti-Cuban actions organized in that country.

Likewise, the Cubans will attend a solidarity mass rally against imperialism scheduled to be held at the UP’s legendary Auditorium where in 2000 the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, denounced assassination attempts by terrorist Luis Posada Carriles.

González’s visit to Panama marks the end of a tour that included Brazil—to participate in the 26th Cuba Solidarity Convention—and Paraguay, where he denounced the 60-plus year-old U.S. Cuba policy as the main obstacle to national development.
