HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 16 (ACN) Cuban State, Government and Party authorities today highlighted the 64th anniversary of the Prensa Latina (PL), founded just six months after the triumph of the Revolution, as an alternative to the big international agencies.
Esteban Lazo, president of the National Assembly of People's Power, pointed out that PL is committed to the truth and the people of Latin America and the Caribbean, with the legacy of the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, and Ernesto Guevara, who conceived the idea and organized the agency, together with journalists Carlos María Gutiérrez and Jorge Ricardo Masetti.
"Congratulations to the Prensa Latina collective on the 64th anniversary of its founding," Lazo said in his message, posted by the legislature on its official Twitter.
In the same social media, Manuel Marrero, Prime Minister of Cuba, who is on an official visit to Russia, joined the congratulations and highlighted that PL tells the truth about Latin America and the world.
In this regard, the Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Roberto Morales Ojeda, affirmed that this task is more necessary today than ever.
In his tweet, the party leader also made reference to the history of PL's creation, linked to a massive press conference that gathered in Havana more than 400 national and foreign journalists in January 1959, in which Fidel Castro expressed that the Latin American press should be in possession of means that allow them to know the truth and not be victims of lies.
