Prime Minister of Dominica Demands End of U.S. Blockade of Cuba

Prime Minister of Dominica Demands End of U.S. Blockade of CubaHAVANA, Cuba, Dec 14 (acn) The Prime Minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit, demanded the cessation of the economic, financial and commercial blockade of the United States against Cuba, while speaking at the 13th Summit of ALBA- TCP under way on Sunday at t his capital's Revolution Building.

On behalf of the governments and peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean, the head of state demanded the lifting of the U.S. siege imposed on the Cuban people for over 50 years now, as well as the removal of Cuba from the list of States sponsoring terrorism.
These measures are counterproductive against a nation that is the vanguard of solidarity, stressed Skerrit, while praising the speed with which the island mobilized against the Ebola epidemics.
In the presence of dignitaries and heads of delegations at the forum, he expressed Dominica's support to continue the work of late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, since "an attack against Venezuela is also an aggression against the Caribbean and Latin America."
In its ten years of existence, the ALBA-TCP has achieved important social successes such as the Literacy and Post-Literacy Teaching Program aimed at declaring its member nations as territories free of illiteracy, which has already benefited over eight million people in the area.
