Nautical Safety Week kicks off today in Cuba

 HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 12 (ACN) The 3rd edition of the Nautical Safety Week in Cuba begins today and will run until next Saturday with a view to promoting citizen awareness on maritime safety that will contribute to ensure safe navigation. The day of the navigator constitutes one of the activities of its program, aimed at the control and use of the means for the crossing in the entities operating vessels, informed the Ministry of the Interior (MININT).

There will also be exchanges with students of maritime-port education centers, technical meetings with captains of the Merchant Marine in the Port Captaincy, colloquiums with the circles of interest of the Border Guard Troops and exhibitions of rescue means, among other actions.

One of the essential objectives of this campaign is to try to prevent maritime events and tragedies, which sometimes cause loss of human lives or expenses to the national economy in the search, salvage and damage to the environment, he said.
This 3rd edition is part of the country's strategy to transform the Maritime Culture, Nautical and Environmental Safety, in the operation of national vessels.

The International Maritime Organization promulgated in the Conference of Manila, capital of the Philippines, June 25, 2010 as Seafarers' Day, because this sector is a basic link in the development of international trade, in the midst of risks and restrictions that threaten the fulfillment of their work.
