Houses for Hurricane Victims Built in Santiago de Cuba with the Help of EcuadorSANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, Dec 12 (acn) The ambitious housing construction for victims of Hurricane Sandy in this city has the support of the Republic of Ecuador, with its contribution to the construction of 560 houses in the initial stage.

The first 160 will soon be finished at Micro Tres of the Abel Santamaria Urban Center, where the Brigade of Engineers of the Ecuadorian Army makes fraternity between the two countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas come true. The cooperation project includes the building of 1,600 houses for families that lost theirs with the devastating hurricane, in October, 2012.
It also includes the restoration of the Solidaridad Cuba-Ecuador Students Dormitory of Faculty 1 of the University of Medical Sciences of Santiago de Cuba, where over 100 Ecuadorian youngsters are studying to become specialists.
Maria Luisa Bueno, territorial representative of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment, told ACN that "Sandy" left destruction and sadness to Santiago de Cuba, but that amid that sorrow solidarity aid was received from nations like Ecuador.
A few days later, she recalled, 1,600 roof modules, with galvanized crossed sections and ridges, among other items, were received from Ecuador to restore the roofs of houses in neighborhoods such as Chicharrones, severely damaged.
In September, 2013, the eastern Cuban city was visited by President Rafael Correa, who toured the aforementioned works in execution.
