Cuba Calls for Action to Cushion World Economic Crisis

Havana, Cuba, May 15 (ACN) Cuban Minister for Finances and Prices Vladimir Regueiro called for actions to face the current global economic crisis as he addressed participants at a Ministerial Meeting of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) held in Chile.

Minister Regueiro referred to the problems pending on countries of this region of the world, which worsened as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Cuban Foreign Ministry’s website.

The Cuban government official condemned the strengthening of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade of the island nation, its people and government and he went on to reject the inclusion of Cuba on the US list of countries alleged sponsors of international terrorism.
He also thanked Caribbean nations for their solidarity and remarks by CELAC demanding the end of the unilateral US policy against Cuba.

The ministerial meeting, headed by Saint Vincent and the Grenadines—current pro-tempore chair of CELAC—dealt with issues like the global and regional macro-economic scenario, the fiscal implications of meeting the needs for investment towards adaptation and mitigation of climate change, among other topics of interest for the Community.

The Cuban delegation included ambassador to Chile Mercedes Vicente; the Finance and Prices Ministry official Octavio Beltran and other members of the Cuban embassy in Chile.
