HAVANA, Cuba, May 15 (ACN) After an 81-day maintenance process, unit 4 of the Cienfuegos thermoelectric power plant (CTE by its Spanish acronym), with 120 megawatts (MW), was synchronized to the national electric system (SEN).
In this regard, Miguel Diaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, stated today on Twitter that the country continues to make steady progress in the stabilization of the SEN.
He highlighted that the Cienfuegos CTE, one of the most efficient in Cuba, with the incorporation of this unit is fully operational.
According to Granma newspaper, the maintenance work included the reestablishment of the bushings of the circulating water pumps, the machining of the rings, treatment of the coolers and the capital rehabilitation of the burners.
Also, in order to eliminate possible misalignments, the bearings, the steam regulation system and the load limiter were overhauled; the furnace was cleaned, and the air and gas seals in the boiler were replaced.
Thus, the Cienfuegos CTE, one of the country's energy pillars, is fully operational and ready for the summer months, when there is a greater demand for electricity.
Unit 4, with Japanese manufacture of the Hitachi brand, opened in 1978 with a generating capacity of 158 megawatts, before this process had complex conditions, mainly in the boiler, in a regenerative air heater out of service and in the power, limited to 50 megawatts.
