Spanish Activists Ship Humanitarian Aid to Cuba

Havana, Cuba, May 10 (ACN) A humanitarian cargo of medical items and resources will be shipped next week from the Barcelona harbor, in Spain towards the western province of Matanzas.

According to the Cuban website “Cubainformacion,” the Defensem Cuba Catalonian solidarity organization collected the material contributed by local citizens, companies and institutions on a 40-feet container to be shipped under the sponsorship of the Catalonian Cooperation for Development Fund, grouping different municipalities of the Catalonian region.

The humanitarian aid is part of a project called “Support of Cuba to face the effects of the industrial fire in Matanazas”, and is included in solidarity-with-Cuba campaigns to counter the impact by the US economic, commercial and financial blockade, according to Cubainformacion website.

Before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, the US’s hostile Cuba policy was reinforced with the adoption and implementation of 243 new sanctions, including the designation of Cuba as one of the countries allegedly sponsors of terrorism, implying serious economic restrictions for the island nation.

Other humanitarian shipments from the Canary Islands and Catalonia already kicked off in route to the Cuban provinces of Pinar del Rio and the Havana.
