SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, May 5 (ACN) With the participation of more than 650,000 workers and their families, Santiago de Cuba celebrated today the heroism of the people, in remembrance of the World Day of the Proletariat and the 70th anniversary of the assault on the Moncada Garrison.
Rene Berenguer, general secretary of the Cuban Workers Federation in the province, in front of the Plaza Mayor General Antonio Maceo, in this city, considered as essential the protagonism of the workers in the search for alternatives to the lack of resources in the improvement of the socialist social system.
He denounced the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the Caribbean island for more than six decades, and congratulated the indomitable for the resistance shown in times of crisis.
Carlos Leyva, a student at the University of Oriente, told the Cuban News Agency that with the parade the City ratifies the will to defend the sovereignty and promote the sustainability and prosperity of the country.
He highlighted the commitment of the academic community and the young people of Santiago with the history of the homeland and the development of the society, when the celebration of the National Rebellion Day is approaching on July 26th.
Yaquelin Wanton, deputy of the Parliament in its 10th Legislature, described the occasion as an opportunity to pay tribute to the achievements of the territory, the contributions of all sectors to the growth of society and the goals proposed for 2023.
The march culminated with a cavalry of 70 horsemen, in tribute to the seven decades of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes garrisons, while paying tribute to Jose Marti, National Hero, on the 170th anniversary of his birth.
