Japanese party leader pays visit to Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba, May 4 (ACN) Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, deputy prime minister of the Republic of Cuba and Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, received today in Havana Motegi Toshimitsu, Secretary-General of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) of Japan, who is paying an official visit to the Island.

Mr. Motegi, who has already met with Cuba’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, congratulated Cabrisas Ruiz on his ratification as deputy prime minister of Cuba and his second appointment as Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment.

On his end, Cabrisas Ruiz described the presence of the Japanese party leader in Cuba as a milestone in the history of bilateral relations between the two peoples and remarked that his visit takes place in a complex moment marked by the world crisis caused by the COVID pandemic and the reinforcement of the U.S. blockade.

Motegi Toshimitsu, who was Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry from 2012 to 2014, is currently serving in the House of Representatives as a member of the LDP, of which he has been Secretary-General since 2021.
