SANCTI SPIRITUS, Cuba, May 3 (ACN) Local political authorities and mass organization leaders welcomed the 240-plus members of the 16th Contingent of the International May Day Brigade of Voluntary Work and Solidarity with Cuba, one of the largest groups of foreign supporters of Cuba, who are visiting this city founded in 1514 by the Spanish colonizers.
Alexis Lorente Jimenez, president of the Municipal Assembly of People's Power, thanked them for coming to Cuba in the midst of a difficult situation caused mainly by the intensification of the U.S. blockade, imposed more than 60 years ago.
Made up of sympathizers from 29 countries, the Brigade will do voluntary work in organoponics and agricultural cooperatives and visit centers of historical, cultural and economic interest. Likewise, they will visit the city of Trinidad—declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988—and participate in the local May Day parade on Friday.
